(GN) – Guahan Napu Inc. and Monster Energy Drink will proceed with the fourth annual Monster Energy Surf the Basin surfing and body-boarding competition on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Hagåtña Boat Basin, after a month’s holdover period.
The competition was to have been held on Oct. 6 originally but Guam Department of Homeland Security requested the organizers to call off the event on Oct. 5 due to heavy weather reportedly developing in the region at that time.
Swells are forecast to be coming from a north-northeast direction at 3 to 5 feet. This year’s event will have a Gender Neutral Open Surfing (shortboard), Gender Neutral Open Longboard surfing, Men’s Open Body-Boarding, Women’s Open Body-Boarding and a Gender Neutral Juniors (17-under) surfing categories.
Registration for the contest is on Friday, Nov. 2 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Laguna Association pavilion at Paseo de Susana Statue of Liberty beach park.
Competition entrance fee is $30 per category. No registration will be accepted on contest day. Showtime for the contest is 6:30 a.m. and the first heat will start at 7 a.m.
In addition to Monster Energy Drink, the event is supported by Primo Surf, PROA Restaurant, Fokai Industries, Lotus Surf Shop, DaKine, DNA Evo, Ripcurl, Arnette, Tumon Bay Lobster & Grill, the Guam Fishermen’s Co-op and Docomo Pacific.
