Keeps perfect record intact

UNDER the bright lights of the Guam Sports Complex, teams in the DPR/GovGuam Coed Volleyball league were set to get their game on. In the last game of the evening, Team Kotte and Team DOE squared off in a battle between the unbeaten. After an exciting and intense match, Kotte kept their record intact after defeating their opponents 27-26.

With the victory, Kotte improves to 4-0 while DOE drops to 3-1 on the season.

In the opening set, Kotte looked to set an early tone after jumping out to a 5-0 lead backed by the hitting and serving of John Chaco and John Chargualaf.

However, Team DOE regained composure and battled back to equalize the game at 6-6 several plays later. Both teams would trade off on points to tie the game on two more occasions before Kotte started a run.

With the score 8-8, Kotte's Chargualaf turned up the heat offensively and tallied three kills on his team's way to a 14-8 lead. The deficit grew larger for DOE as errors continued to plague them, forcing a timeout to be called. Whatever was discussed seemed to work as DOE turned a 19-10 deficit into a 21-19 game.

Kotte continued to apply pressure and were poised to close out the first set after upping their lead to 23-19. However, Team DOE had other intentions and tied the game at 23-23 led by kills from Leon Bamba and John Quinata.

After three ties, the two teams brought the score to 26-26. With a cap set at 27, the next point would take the set. Kotte's Sonda Yatar found an opening in the DOE defense to give her team the set.

From the start of the second set, things went all Kotte's way. Numerous unforced errors dug DOE into a deeper hole as Kotte began the set taking an 11-4 lead. Despite narrowing the gap midway through the set at 14-12, DOE just couldn't find a way to get back into the game. Kotte would go on a scoring spree that eventually gave them the 25-12 victory. Chaco and Chargualaf combined for seven kills in the scoring finale.

Kotte's duo of Chaco and Chargualaf led their team offensively combining for 13 kills and six aces. In the losing effort, DOE's Mike Meno tallied three kills.

IMS sweeps Judiciary

In the earlier game, Inarajan Middle School and Judiciary met up in a match where both teams were looking to even their record at 2-2. At the end of the match, it was Inarajan that picked up the victory in straight sets.
