THE Tamuning Gymnasium was busy as usual last night as action in the Bud Light Golden Hoops Classic provided fans with some great basketball action.
In the opening game of the night, Ada's Trust and Fuetsa Club duked it out in the coed recreational division. At the end of two halves of play, Fuetsa Club walked away victorious after dealing Ada's Trust a 57-33 beating.
Fuetsa came out with some force and opened a quick 7-0 lead backed by the scoring of Barbara Perez and Joseph Gumataotao. It wasn't until four minutes into the game when Ada's Trust ended the run on a Robert Torres layup. Both teams continued to trade baskets, keeping the margin five for several minutes.
Midway through the opening half, Fuetsa sparked a huge run that gave them a 28-11 lead. Giovanni Perez led the mini-surge draining six points for Fuetsa. Despite trailing from the get-go, Ada's Trust continued to fight. A made shot from long range by Anthony John made it a 28-14 game. Not too long after, John converted a turnover into three more points making it a 28-17 game. However, Fuetsa managed to sink two more buckets courtesy of Sandra Larribes and Gumataotao before going into the halftime break.
Second half
After returning to action, Ada's Trust was first to strike as Replan and teammate Scott Ulloa combined for three points to make it a 32-20 game. Each time Ada's Trust looked to start a run in hopes of getting back into the game, Fuetsa responded with a huge outburst. With 12 minutes on the clock, a 12-2 run increased the Fuetsa lead to 44-22.
Ada's Trust managed to end the long surge on a Ulloa fast-break layup and a 3 from Sonny Ada. However, Fuetsa refused to let their opponents back into the game and closed out going on a 13-point scoring spree. Julian North dropped three baskets for six points in the final minutes. When the final buzzer went off, the scoreboard reflected Fuetsa garnering the double-digit victory.
Fuetsa was led by Gumataotao's game-high 11 points, while teammates North and Perez added 10 apiece. In the losing effort, Replan, Torres and John scored eight points each for Ada's Trust. Bud Light Golden Hoops Classic action resumes this weekend with several games slated on the schedule.
