THE local sports community has many things to offer for all ages. From activities inside a gym to action around the diamond, one is guaranteed to find something worth their while.
Recently, the Guam Kyokushin Karate organization expanded their offerings to all by celebrating the grand opening of their new dojo located in Yigo. A growing discipline and sport, the newly opened doors up north have only broadened opportunities for all both young and old.
According to Guam Kyokushin’s Chris Biolchino, the organization wanted to reconnect with the northern villages and extend the encouragement of benefitting from training. “Kyokushin has been on Guam since 1964. As a longtime resident of Yigo, it is a great feeling to welcome students to our new dojo. It’s about reconnecting with the northern villages and encouraging people to benefit from training Kyokushin Karate.”
Already an established and successful organization, the grand opening only signifies better things for the sport and organization alike.
With an additional dojo, Guam Kyokushin is hoping to expand. “With more students come better opportunities for our local tournaments, promotion tests and overall training experience,” Biolchino said. During the eventful and cheerful opening, a two-hour training session was held by Guam Kyokushin’s Branch Chief Sensei Kin Pangelinan, HMAC Head Instructor Sensei Tony Rodriguez, and Biolchino. Following the vigorous session, a potluck lunch and a meet-and-greet session with instructors was held.
Guam Kyokushin Karate offers classes three days a week.
