PARTICIPATING in sporting events that require modifications to the rules or tweaking things a bit only make things a bit more challenging and puts some added fun. Recently, a group of people made their way to the links of Admiral Nimitz Golf Course in Radio Barrigada to participate in something almost unheard of.

As part of their 50th Anniversary Celebration, Coast360 Federal Credit Union hosted a “Drive into the Night” appreciation golf event.

“We wanted to reward our members with a unique and fun-filled event that is our first ever on Guam,” said Coast360’s Rowena Sta. Maria.

Using the par three course and parts of the long course, a little more than 70 Coast360 members were introduced to playing golf under the night sky. With the fairways and greens lined with green and red glow sticks, respectively, players played in a format that only required them to have nothing but pure fun. According to event coordinator Geri Leon Guerrero, it was a really unique site to see. “Players wore glow necklaces and teed off with glow-in-the-dark balls. Flag sticks and holes were lit up as well.”

Despite not having a specified scoring system, part of the fun was the entertainment and dinner provided along with several prizes awarded. While contestants played on despite the elements of rain, hills and puddles, entertainment was provided by a live band playing on the course throughout the event. At the conclusion of a rare event, several prizes were raffled out that included a $500 time share deposit certificate, a 50 gallon SPPC gas card, and a $100 gift card from Hornet Sporting Goods.

“All in all, it was a total success for Coast360 and all its members; it was one of the most unique ways to celebrate and recognize 50 years of success,” Leon Guerrero said.
