MVG Fantasy Football set to kick off

AS THE regular season for some intense gridiron action in the National Football League lingers right around the corner, many die-hard fans and football fanatics can’t wait for yet another year of excitement. Here on our very own island of Guam, football fans and those who dare to enter the realm of the sport are prepared for something just as big, if not bigger.

Later tonight, participants will officially kick off the beginning of the 2012 Marianas Variety Guam Fantasy Football League presented by Bud Light.

With depth charts, cheat sheets and several stats for teams and players ready, participants in Division One of the Indies Division will begin their draft session later tonight at Lonestar Steakhouse. Vying for top players and teams to fill their rosters, participants will be looking to put forth their best selection in hopes of being crowned this year’s champion.

Despite being in Division Two of the Indies Division and having to do his drafting tomorrow night, two-time MVG Fantasy Football defending champion Rick Bordallo is looking forward to another successful season.

“I think I’m due for some luck this year, I’m really hoping to get a little lucky this season,” Bordallo said.

The defending champion claims there’s no true secret to his past two seasons of success and that the draft and the outcome every week comes with a certain feel. “I’m just like everyone else. I can’t think that I’ve already won despite being the returning champ. I just have to do my best and always say my prayers.”

This year’s MVG Fantasy Football League will feature three separate divisions at the start of the season. The Indies Division will have two individual divisions, while the Chiefs Division will feature a Corporate Division. The top four teams from the Chiefs Division and the top two from both divisions in the Indies league will move on to a championship playoff for a shot at winning an all-expense-paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, La. The runner-up will receive a 46-inch LED HDTV and the third place winner will receive a one-year subscription to MCV’s bundled package of Internet, cable, phone and HD channels.

“Everyone should go in knowing they have a shot at winning the title this year. It doesn’t matter if you have tons of experience or not, each team has a shot at the big prize,” Bordallo added.
