ENTERING week two in the 2012 Guam National Youth Football Federation League, the Cinnabon Island Saints and LMS Hal’s Angels boasted a 1-0 record. However, this past Sunday, both teams took on one another and each team was looking to keep their winning streak alive. Using their strength on both sides of the ball, the Saints picked up their second win after doubling up on their opponents for a 26-13 victory.

The Saints were first to act on offense at the start of the game. However, it only took one play before the Angels’ Isaiah Tabobo intercepted a pass attempt to give his team their first shot on offense. Cinnabon proved their toughness on defense as well by forcing the Angels to a quick four and out.

Three minutes into the game, the Saints moved into the red zone after Dylan Peter Manibusan pounded his way downfield for a 21-yard run. On the ensuing play, Julian Powell complimented his teammate’s run and made his way through the Angels' defense for the game’s first score. Despite not converting the point-after, Cinnabon held a 6-0 lead.

LMS tried to end the early dry spell as they went back to work on offense. However, the Saints continued to apply tremendous pressure on defense and eventually forced their opponents to a second straight turnover on downs. It took two plays for Cinnabon to increase their lead to 13-0 after Manibusan found an opening down the sideline and sprinted in for a 29-yard touchdown run.

Second period

Minutes into the second period, the Angels finally got the offense jumpstarted when Adin Jude Lumba pounded his way for 9 yards. LMS continued to keep the ball on the ground with Lumba adding several more yards to his tally. Just when things looked to be going in favor of the Angels, Cinnabon turned up the heat on defense and forced the Angels to fumble the ball in their red zone.

The Saints managed to convert the turnover for points when Powell ran 66 yards downfield with the pigskin in hand for a touchdown and a 20-0 lead. With only minutes left in the first half, the Saints upped their lead by another six points after converting another TD.

Returning from the halftime break, the Angels remained determined despite being down by double digits. In the third period, LMS put six points on the board after the powerful Lumba busted his way through the Saints line for a 4-yard touchdown run. With a running clock in effect, the Angels needed to work quickly. While being able to hold the Saints to zero points for the remainder of the game, the Angels were able to tag on another touchdown and PAT to make it a 26-13 game. Noah Medler was credited with scoring the Angels’ second TD of the game.
