AFTER several rounds of intense motocross action already logged in the books, riders will return this Sunday to the Guam International Raceway in Yigo to compete in the final round of the 2012 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championship series.
Event coordinators are inviting all race enthusiasts to come out and participate in an event-filled day. Here’s a look at what’s to take place:
Before and after the final round of racing takes place, there will be a champion’s plate presentation. According to event coordinators, Open Motorcycle and 250cc 2012 Monster Energy Guam Motocross champ JR Cepeda along with his family and supporters is asking everyone to come join them as they open up a table for lunch at the same time as the plate presentations.
The Round 12 schedule is as follows:
- 9 a.m. – Gates will open for the 9 a.m.-to-noon practice and for setup. Check in with officials and receive a rider wrist band before unloading. Race fee is $10. Must be a GIRMAC member. - Noon – Practice ends and the course will be closed. Penalties for ignoring that the practice has concluded may include a dead engine start up to a disqualification. There will be a one lap “sight lap” only prior to the start of each heat. Those who wish to practice on the day of the race must show up early and remember to check in for a wrist band first.
- 12:30 p.m. – Required riders meeting to give everyone any last-minute information, explain new procedures, and go over rules and meaning of race flags.
- 1 p.m. – Event begins and open class motorcycles will receive technical inspection at the starting line and be allowed a one lap “sight lap.” After the “sight lap,” each rider will line up for the start of the heat. After the Open Motorcycle class has concluded, the Kids Mini ATV class will be technically inspected and given a “sight lap” and then lined back up for the start of their heat. Following the same procedure will be the Kids Minibike followed by the Open ATV class.
Shell V-Power Holeshot Award
The event will be continuing with the very special to this year’s series the Shell V-Power Holeshot Award. Riders in respective classes will be lining up during their second heat with the hopes of getting a great launch at the start and leading the rest of the field through the first turn, therefore taking the “hole shot” and the award. Hole shot award winners will receive a fuel pass in the form of Shell V-Power Fuel coupons. With the possibility of more than 20 machines on the line, the drag race to and through the first turn will be a race within a race.
