(NISSAN) – The 2012 Nissan Rainy Season Race Series kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 2.
The Rainy Season Race Series is a staple of the Guam Cycling Federation cycling calendar and is one of two mountain bike-only race series events that are staged each year.
Race 1 in the series will be held on trails in the Two Lovers Point area. Race 2 will be held on the trails and roads in the Tiyan area and Race 3 will be held in trails between NCTAMS housing and the cliff line.
This event is open to mountain bikes of all sorts. Knobbies or slicks can be used on any race. Any type of mountain bike frame is acceptable, full suspension, hard-tail, 29er’s, or downhill.
Awards will be provided to the top three male and female finishers in each age group category and for the top three male and female riders in the Open and Recreational categories. Only riders participating in all three races of the series are eligible for awards.
The GCF invites riders of all age groups and experience levels to come out and participate in this year’s race series. The race courses are non-technical and cover some beautiful areas of Guam. Show time for all races is 6 a.m. with a 7 a.m. go time. Those interested can register at Hornet Sports in Tamuning.
- Race 1 Two Lover’s XC – Race meeting spot and start is the road that leads up to the Two Lovers Point park. Race course follows the trails of Two Lovers Point and eventually leads back to the race start point to finish one lap. Each lap is approximately 2 miles.
- Race 2 Tiyan XC – Race meeting spot is the Tiyan soccer fields. Race is a combination of grass trails and road course. Lap distance is approximately 2.5 miles. Lap distances will be determined on race morning.
- Race 3 NCTAMS XC – Race will include new trail sections for the Rainy Season Series. Expert and Age Group category will include trail sections that contain natural obstacles such as tree roots, rocks, and the occasional coconut. Recreational course will exclude the more technical trail section.
