THE Guam Football Association facility in Harmon was busy as usual this past weekend as the Bud Light Women's 7-A-Side Soccer League resumed action on Sunday.
In one of the later games of the day, Hyundai took on Pika SC. Both teams battle-tested one another; however, at the end of the match, only one could prevail as winners. When the signal to end play was blown, the scoreboard reflected Hyundai clinching a slim 5-3 margin of victory over their opponents.
Pika SC wasted no time in the early parts of the game as they managed to put a goal on the board. In the fourth minute of play, Sara Pleadwell spotted an open Christine "Ubi" Ubaldo who was able to put the ball past the Hyuandai goalkeeper for the score. Later, a pesky Pika defense backed by goalkeeper Leo Abinales kept a stunned Hyundai team scoreless for the remainder of the 30-minute half.
Returning to action in the second half, Hyundai immediately took matters into their own hands and equalized the game at 1-1 only a minute into the half. Receiving a perfectly placed pass from Arisa Recella, Hyundai's Shana Spindel managed to zip a shot past Abinales for the goal. Hyundai wasn't ready to settle with the tie and two minutes later took their first lead of the game after a converted goal by Recella. The scoring spree for Hyundai continued as they found themselves up 3-1 after another Spindel goal.
All hope wasn't lost for Pika SC when Ubaldo found the back of the net once again, this time shooting the ball to the left post past Hyundai goalie Chyna Ramirez to cut their deficit down to one. However, Recella managed to up the Hyundai lead to 4-2 after notching another goal. Despite trailing, Pika SC remained hungry and was able to narrow the Hyundai lead when Ubaldo recorded another goal to give her the hat trick.
With time on the clock continuing to wind down, Pika tried effortlessly to score the game's equalizer. However, Hyundai's Olivia Flores sealed the deal after scoring in the 59th minute to put her team up 5-3. When time on the clock expired, Hyundai walked away from the pitch with the win.
