THE Tamuning Gymnasium has always been a very busy place and last night was no different as action resumed in the 2012 Summer Jam Basketball League. Opening the night with the first game was the Northern All-Stars taking on the Mongmong-Toto-Maite Falcons in the 16-under Competitive Division. Northern proved too strong for the Falcons and cruised to an easy 63-25 victory.

From tip-off, Northern took immediate control of the game and opened a quick 6-0 lead. The duo of Kurtis Silva and Jeddou Antonio were credited with all the points in the early run. MTM managed to put their first two points on the board after Arvin Flores sank back-to-back free throws.

Down 15-5 with 10 minutes left in the first half, the Falcons trimmed their deficit by three after a made free throw and basket by Joshua McCarrel and Jonard Serafico, respectively. However, Northern turned up the heat on both sides that led to a huge 14-0 run in two minutes. The Falcons were able to momentarily stop the bleeding when Philip Taijeron drained a 3 to make it a 29-11 game. At the buzzer to signal halftime, the scoreboard reflected Northern holding a commanding 35-14 lead.

The Falcons returned to action in the second half striking first. Less than 20 seconds into play, McCarrel sank a short jumper from the baseline. However, Northern answered back with three straight baskets to rebuild a 41-16 lead. Despite facing a huge deficit, MTM continued to play hard on every possession. Flores made it a 41-19 game after dialing in from long distance.

With only 10 minutes left in the game, the All-Stars' Cedric Sevilla and Antonio led a run that gave their team a huge 54-21 advantage. The two players combined for nine points in the rally. The Falcons tried effortlessly to somehow get back into the game, but Northern never allowed the opportunity. In the final minutes of the game, Northern gave up four points while scoring nine to give them the "W" at the sound of the buzzer.

Silva led Northern scoring a game-high 18 points, while teammates Antonio and Daniel Del Carmen chipped in 12 and seven, respectively. The Falcons were led by McCarrel's 10 points. Taijeron scored eight points while teammate Flores contributed five.

Summer Jam action continues later tonight with three games in the 18-under division on tap:  6 p.m. – MTM Falcons vs. Northern All-stars; 7 p.m. – Sixers Club vs. Inarajan Heat; and 8 p.m. – DBL Club vs. Tamuning Typhoons.
