SINCE clinching the Bud Light Guam Women’s Tackle Football League inaugural season championship not too long ago, the Circle K Island Stunnerz players have been on a hot streak. Last Saturday, the Island Stunnerz took on the SPPC Lady Spartans in their regular season finale. At the end of four quarters, Circle K took care of business and defeated their opponents 48-24 to finish the season with a 3-0 record. The Lady Spartans, on the other hand, fell another game short of picking up their first win.

In the opening minutes of the game, Circle K immediately took matters into their own hands and scored the game’s first touchdown. Lorina Guerrero made her way into the end zone on her team’s first possession of the game. SPPC tried effortlessly to get something going, but the Stunnerz proved too strong defensively and kept the Spartans off-balanced. Circle K eventually extended their lead to 24-0 after scoring on back-to-back possessions.

Things weren’t looking too good for the Lady Spartans. However, in the second quarter, Crys Morris was able to carry the ball for a rushing touchdown. Down only two possessions, SPPC was able to hold defensively and denied the Stunnerz any way of upping their lead going into the halftime break.

Circle K returned from the intermission and continued to pour out the offense to widen their lead. The opening drive of the third quarter witnessed Leann Villagomez and teammate Michelle Rode connecting for a long touchdown reception. A much more focused SPPC responded almost immediately on the next possession as they were able to score on a touchdown by Morris.

Pull away

The Stunnerz started to pull away from their opponents and posted enough points for the scoreboard to reflect a 40-12 lead. Despite being down huge, the Lady Spartans continued to play with sheer determination. While allowing the Stunnerz to score once more, SPPC was able to post two more TDs on the board courtesy of touchdowns from Morris and teammate Alesa Lee.

Time on the game clock worked against the Spartans and when the final seconds ticked off the clock, it was the Stunnerz who raised their hands victorious to preserve the unbeaten streak. With the loss, the Lady Spartans drop to 0-3 on the season.

Bud Light Guam Women’s Tackle Football League action resumes this Saturday with the first round of the playoffs starting. The Lady Spartans have a chance to extract revenge, as they will once again square off against the Island Stunnerz at the Eagles Field scheduled for noon.
