GUAM’s Brentt Salas, 11, won third place in the 2012 King Auto 12-and-Under State Championship held in Hawaii Prince Golf Course in Ewa Beach for the 11-to-12 age group.

Yesterday, Salas scored an 80 and at Wednesday’s round he raked in a 70. His total overall score was a 150. Salas competed against Acey Yangashita, who came in at second, and Len Yamada, who placed first with 145 points.

“So far he’s been very motivated and committed to playing golf. We really support him as much as we can. It’s clear to us that he really loves the game,” says his father, Carlos Salas.

Salas will compete in two more Hawaii tournaments before competing in the Callaway Junior World Championship in San Diego and Veritas in Los Angeles next month. Salas and fellow junior golfer Ancieto Mandanas will represent Guam in the 11-to-12 age group.
