MOST people would agree that the mall is usually a place known for shopping, eating, and a place for hanging out with family and friends. But this past weekend, something a little different took place as Domino Lux International hosted its first boxing tournament at the Center Court of the Micronesia Mall.
The seven-fight card boxing event coincided with the group’s Peace Festival. The exhibition/tournament fights were three-round fights and here’s a look at the event results.
Adriel Lozado defeated Ismael Magro via decision
Entering the bout, Magro was already at a disadvantage as he squared off against a much heavier and bigger Lozado. However, Magro wasn’t ready to let the pre-bout disadvantages take a toll on him mentally and physically. The much smaller opponent came storming out with several combinations and a series of punches to keep Lozado on the defensive. Despite a display of heart by Magro, it wasn’t too long before Lozado mounted enough to sway a decision in his favor to claim the win.
Zachary Tenorio defeated Anthony Gamboa via TKO
In what could be considered the crowd favorite fight, Zachary Tenorio and Anthony Gamboa gave everyone in attendance something to cheer about. Gamboa seemed poised to control the fight as he opened his match up by delivering power shots while staying active in the ring. However, in the second round, Gamboa began to show signs of slowing down and it was from that point where Tenorio took advantage and began to strike with devastating punches that eventually swelled the face of Gamboa. Third-round action began with Tenorio continuing where he left off. A couple more power shots that connected forced the referee to stop the bout.
Daniel Sanchez defeated Ryan Villagomez via unanimous decision
Strategy became Daniel Sanchez’s key to defeating Ryan Villagomez in their match. Sanchez seemed to be the more patient and relaxed fighter as Villagomez continued to pour out punches. Sanchez continued to move around while avoiding any blows. It wasn’t until fatigue set in on Villagomez when Sanchez began to deal strong shots to the body and head of Villagomez. When the decision was rendered it was Sanchez who claimed the victory.
- Adrienne Francisco defeated Zachary Flores via referee stoppage (injury).
- Rion Alfred and Liberty Concepcion fought their way to a draw.
- Gino Cruz defeated Aljay Kanishiro via split decision.
- Doris Green defeated Julius Yengetmai via unanimous decision.
