THE island’s youth soccer players donned their respective soccer club jerseys, shin guards and cleats one last time for the conclusion of the 2012 Cars Plus Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League spring season, held Saturday at the Guam Football Association facility.

Thousands of youth players, their coaches, parents, and club team supporters flocked to the Harmon facility to participate in the Spring Jamboree, which featured more than a dozen youth soccer clubs celebrating their teams’ achievements in a fiesta-like atmosphere.

Teams in the U6, U8, and U10 divisions had the opportunity to face off against each other in multiple, but shortened games throughout the day.

In the older divisions, it was business as usual, with teams completing their final matches of the season to determine league rankings.

No upsets were posted in the U16 division, as the Wings FC Black completed league play in first place with an unblemished 8-0 record.

The Wings FC Red team almost played spoiler in the day, but succumbed to their Black team counterparts in the 11 a.m. match. The Wolverines solidified their second place standing in the division with a 12-2 win over Tumon and the ASC Islanders overcame the Samurai Heat 5-3 to stay in third place.

Other matches

In other U16 matches, the Guam U14 Boys National Team defeated the Strykers 8-0 in their final league match before the AFC U14 Festival of Football in Beijing, China.

Xavier Kirkse and Napu Topasna each scored twice for the U14 national team, and teammates Jake Benito, Leon Bamba, Shane Healy and Jestin Escobar scored the team’s other goals.

In the U14 division, the Wings FC recorded a shutout win over the Samurai Heat, as did Community First, defeating the Crushers 7-0. The Wolverines finished with a 5-2 win over Quality Distributors and the Strykers defeated the Southern Cobras, 6-2.

In the day’s late match, the ASC Islanders posted a 4-1 victory over the Kicker Sisters, Guam’s U13 Girls National team. Skyylerblu Johnson scored the lone goal for the Kicker Sisters on a first-half moon ball that had just enough arc to slip in the goal past ASC’s goalkeeper.

Three draws were posted in the U12 division. The ASC Islanders battled to a 2-2 draw against Quality Distributors Red, as did Strykers Blue and the Wolverines.

Community First Gold and the Piranhas ended their game in a 3-3 draw. In other matches, the Orange Crushers defeated Quality Distributors Blue 5-2; Wings Red won against Tumon; Wings Black beat the Southern Cobras; and the Sidekicks posted a 7-1 win over Community First Blue.
