THE Guam Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run traffic accident that killed a 17-year-old Dededo resident on Valentine’s Day.

JR Isack became the island’s second traffic-related fatality of the year when he was struck by an unidentified driver of a silver sedan at around 6 a.m. on Marine Corps Drive, near the entrance to Ypaopao Estates.

Isack was rushed to Guam Memorial Hospital. According to Guam Fire Department spokesman Lt. Ed Artero, GFD medics conducted CPR on the victim at the accident scene and while en route to the hospital.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Isack was immediately placed on life support and went into coma but was pronounced dead at around 5:45 p.m.

Investigators are looking for the operator of the vehicle who fled the scene and are encouraging witnesses to come forward and provide information about the accident.

On Jan. 18, another victim of a hit-and-run also died at GMH after he was hit along Route 16 by Harmon Loop Hotel.

The pedestrian, Robert Simmering, 52, died from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder.

The auto-pedestrian incident is also under investigation and no arrest or citation has been made regarding the first traffic-related fatality of 2014.
