THE #GuamLove campaign, launched by the Guam Visitors Bureau, continued with a light park event Saturday evening. Free #GuamLove T-shirts, movie tickets and a staycation package courtesy of Hyatt Regency Guam were given out to participants in attendance.

The bureau also highlighted its Hafa Adai Pledge mission during the light park event. Six local businesses signed the Hafa Adai Pledge, joining about 500 other businesses on island vowing to spread the island’s culture.

Karl Pangelinan, GVB general manager, said the bureau also encouraged businesses to incorporate elements of sustainability into their Hafa Adai pledge.

The pledge encourages Guam agencies to incorporate the Chamorro culture or language into their workplace using varying methods. Most businesses pledge to answer the phone with a Hafa Adai greeting or will encourage employees to wear island print on Fridays.

The #GuamLove campaign will continue through March 15. “#GuamLove is an effort to promote 2014 as the ‘Year of Love’ on Guam and celebrate both American Valentine’s Day and Japanese White Day, through traditional and social media promotions,” according a release from the bureau.

GVB has promoted its photo contest on social media, encouraging local residents to take a photo at the light park in Tumon or take a photo of anything they love about Guam and submit it for a chance to win a staycation package, a dinner for two at Al Dente Italian restaurant or Tango theater movie tickets. Interested persons can send their photos to GVB through Facebook. Selected images may also be featured on Guam brand postcards.
