Calvo-Tenorio team kicks off re-election bid

GOV. Eddie Calvo and Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio yesterday kicked off their campaign to win a second term in Adelup, touting “significant change” under their current leadership and re-adopting their 2010 “New Direction” slogan.

With no other team emerging to challenge them in the Republican primary, the Calvo-Tenorio ticket officially began their campaign in Malojloj and Inarajan, promising this year to be “better than last.”

“This election is about so much more than choosing leaders. It’s about believing in the work we’ve done together and knowing that we’re going in the right direction,” Calvo said.

“This is only the beginning – and by the way, I’m just getting myself warmed up because this is just the start of a very long campaign season,” the governor said.

Phil Leon Guerrero, spokesman for the governor, said a motorcade of 1,500 cars joined the Republican team’s first re-election campaign rally which he claimed drew bipartisan support from village mayors.

“This was the first village meeting; the next meeting will be held in Merizo next weekend,” Leon Guerrero said.

According to a press release from the governor’s office, “Hundreds of Malojloj and Inarajan residents, village organization leaders, and village mayors welcomed the governor and lieutenant governor at the home of Connie and JR Garrido.”

In his speech, Calvo said: “We’re not here to say the other guy is bad. We’re here to help the greatest people in the world: taotao Chamoru, taotao Guam. We are all one island,” the governor said.

“Our people will be the best they can be, as long as there is a government that stands behind them. It can be tax refunds, or law enforcement raises, or a merit bonus for a nurse, or a home for a young family,” he added.
