THE female and male suspects in two separate robberies that victimized a resident and a tourist in Tumon are now behind bars facing felony charges.

Tomas Toves Quichocho, 32, who was the subject of an investigation after he robbed a female resident at knifepoint outside her home in Tumon Heights, was arrested by investigators, according to Guam Police Department spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia.

Follow-up work led detectives to 23-year-old Yigo resident Jessilyn Ann Babauta, who was using the phone taken from a Norwegian tourist.

During the course of investigation, it was discovered that Quichocho was Babauta's passenger when they robbed the Norwegian tourist after offering her a ride in Tumon.

The 21-year-old Norwegian woman was visiting her Navy boyfriend and they were at a Tumon club on Friday night when they got into a fight and the woman left, on foot, on her own.

She said that as she was walking up the hill toward Bishop Flores Loop, she was offered a ride by a female Caucasian who was driving a white SUV. Inside the vehicle was a male passenger who was described as having a full beard, dark complexion, and wearing a black and white hooded shirt.

The victim got in the rear seat and was transported around the Tamuning area toward Hagåtña when the male individual brandished a black handgun and demanded money from the victim. She said she did not have cash, only a bank card – prompting the male to instruct the female operator to drive toward the nearby Bank of Guam. Upon reaching the ATM, the male suspect demanded that the victim withdraw money from her account. However, the victim showed him there was no money in the account. The suspect insisted on money and at one point even fired one shot into the air out of the window of the SUV. The victim said it took some time before the suspects realized she could not produce any money and they decided to drop her off at the Hagåtña Pool where she was left by the suspects after they took her cellular phone.

Quichocho and Babauta were booked and confined on two counts of robbery, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, two counts of guilt established by complicity, two counts of criminal facilitation, and kidnapping.

Separate charges of robbery, conspiracy, guilt established by complicity, and assault have been filed against Quichocho for victimizing  a 45-year-old woman on Dec. 28.

Chokehold

According to the victim, the suspect approached her from behind as she tried to unlock and enter the front door of her residence, and he placed her in a chokehold. He then used a knife to cut the strap of her purse and cut her left hand in the process. The suspect was then seen by witnesses running toward Tumon Heights Road where he made a right turn toward Mamis Street and then made a left turn toward Ypao Road before entering the parking lot of the Ypao Breeze Inn. The victim was transported to Guam Memorial Hospital and treated for her injury as well as for emotional trauma and distress caused by the incident.
