DURING the early morning hours of the new year, Dr. Thomas Shieh delivered four healthy baby girls. The first child of 2014 was Amber Chrisha L. Caponpon, born to Amor M. Laxamana at the Sagua Mañagu birthing center four minutes and 30 seconds after the stroke of midnight. Amber was 21 inches long and weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces; her father is Christian M. Caponpon.

After delivering Amber, Shieh delivered three more children at Guam Memorial Hospital. According to Shieh, he was checking in on two patients at GMH and was called into a delivery for a patient whose doctor was late. This baby was the second one of 2014, born around 1 a.m., he reported. The other two patients delivered before 4 a.m.

“Never had to deliver the first four babies of the new year, and never all girls!” Shieh said in an email message.

Amber and her family were presented with gifts from 20 island businesses as part of Archway Inc.’s celebration of Where America's First Baby is Born. Archway presented the gifts that included a year’s supply of pampers and baby wipes from FHP and Dickerson & Quinn, respectively.

Archway has been celebrating Where America's First Baby is Born since 2005.
