Fireworks over Tumon Bay on New Year’s Eve

AS 2013 comes to a close, the island will be treated to a New Year's Eve fireworks display over Tumon Bay at the stroke of midnight.

The fireworks will be launched from three barges in the bay. The fireworks show will last for about 15 minutes.

The three barges will be sent off by ShowProse Pyro into the center of Tumon Bay from the main pavilion at Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park. “With three barges being used, we believe this will be the most impressive fireworks show ever seen on our island,” Guam Visitors Bureau General Manager Karl Pangelinan said.

The Department of Parks and Recreations will not be renting out pavilions at the park; however, the park will remain open to the public.

The Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association will be working with G4S Security and DPR to control access to the beach and the main pavilion.

According to GHRA President Mary Rhodes, this is the first year they have used barges to launch the annual fireworks display instead of launching it from land.

GVB will also be having a New Year's Eve social media promotion and has invited the local community to participate. Participants will have a chance to win a grand prize package, along with two tickets to see the Pepper live concert on New Year’s Eve. The winners will be contacted through Facebook and there will be announcements over the radio by i94, Power98, K57 and 105theKat. Those who wish to participate can visit GVB on Facebook and “Like” the page.

The event is hosted by GVB and GHRA and its industry partners. Sponsors include DFS Guam, Outrigger Guam Resort, Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, Pacific Islands Club, Fiesta Guam Resort and the Hyatt Regency Guam.
