GHURA seeks release of $1M for renovations

THE Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority is seeking the release of $1 million in federal grants for a number of housing renovation projects.

The projects are covered by the Green Physical Needs Assessment and Energy Audits Programs funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development office in Hawaii.

The projects involve renovation and modernization of GHURA-run housing units in Sinajaña, Agana Heights, Inarajan, Tafolofo, Yoña, Agat, Toto and Dededo.

GHURA Executive Director Michael Duenas said the federal grants have been appropriated for program year 2013 and are not affected by the budget crisis in Washington.

He said the release of the funds is dependent on the outcome of the required environmental impact study as required under the National Environmental Protection Act.

Public comments on the projects, which are opened this week, are due by Oct. 23.
