THE Guam Department of Education ordered the early release of Untalan Middle School students yesterday after the Tiyan campus experienced a power outage caused by severed conduit lines.

In a GDOE advisory, Deputy Superintendent Robert Malay said the noon release was necessary as the Guam Power Authority continued to address the power load at the school.

According to GPA Communications Manager Art Perez, the power authority identified the cause of the outage to be a contractor who had severed some conduit lines.

The lines, according to GPA, were servicing a main transformer that was feeding the school compound.

Perez said they were informed early in the morning of power fluctuations at the Tiyan campus.

"A report came in regarding the fluctuations affecting the school which eventually resulted in an outage," Perez said.

GPA line crews were immediately dispatched to do some troubleshooting and repairs.

At around 4 p.m. yesterday, work was still ongoing at the Tiyan school, according to Perez.

He assured, however, that repairs will be completed in time for the school to resume classes today.
