THE Guam Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal vehicle collision in Yigo after a moped driver died Tuesday night.

The unidentified 40-year-old moped driver died before midnight at Guam Memorial Hospital, according to Nursing Supervisor Shirley Pinera.

GPD spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia said the accident happened at around 9 p.m. along Route 1 by Jose Galo Street near the Yigo Pay-Less.

He said the moped driver and his female passenger were heading north on Marine Corps Drive when their moped collided with a southbound blue 2004 Toyota Camry that was attempting to make a left turn onto Jose Galo Street.

Responding GPD officers and emergency units immediately transported the man to Guam Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 11:30 p.m.

The female passenger who was unhurt during the accident is now the key witness in the vehicular homicide investigation.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola is now conducting an autopsy on the 10th traffic-related fatality of the year.
