A 2-and-a-half-year-old girl was saved from drowning Sunday afternoon at Ypao Beach when a Department of Parks and Recreation lifeguard reacted quickly and pulled the child out of the water.

According to Guam Police Department acting Public Information Officer Lt. Art Paulino, police officers from the Tamuning-Tumon Police Precinct Beach Patrol were dispatched to a possible drowning at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ypao Beach.

Responding officers learned that the child, who was with her father, was about 10 feet from the shoreline.

The girl, only identified as Chuukese, was conscious and foaming from the mouth. She was immediately transported to Guam Memorial Hospital where she was moved from the Intensive Care Unit to the Pediatric Unit at around 5 p.m.

Paulino said the case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Section for further investigation.
