A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after a fight over a woman led him to stab another man on the night of July 4.

According to Assistant Attorney General Brian D. Gallagher's court declaration, Jack Tochoy Lessoy is also being charged for using a deadly weapon and aggravated assault in the stabbing of Marcus Ionas.

A witness, Resin Haruo, told investigators that when he heard Lessoy arguing with someone, he investigated further and saw the victim fighting with the defendant at about 8:45 p.m.

Haruo said he was able to recover the knife which was lying on the ground, and tossed it in a garbage bin in order to keep it away from the defendant. Police later recovered the knife from a dumpster.

According to responding police officers, Lessoy appeared to be intoxicated. Although there was swelling on his forehead, a cut on his right ear and an abrasion on his right knee, the defendant refused medical treatment. When advised of his constitutional rights, Lessoy stated: “Sir, I stab Marcus, just take me to jail.”

Haruo later identified Lessoy in the police precinct as the one who stabbed Ionas.

Further investigation revealed the defendant was at a party with the victim and was drinking vodka and coke when the victim approached him and indicated his intent to marry the defendant’s sister – who was already married.

An argument ensued and the victim punched the defendant. Lessoy allegedly responded by stabbing the victim.
