BILL 92, a measure which allows homeowners to open bed and breakfast businesses, has been passed by the Legislature.

The measure, introduced by Sens. Michael Limtiaco and Tina Muña-Barnes, attempts to tap existing capacity in the current residential real estate market to accommodate the growth in tourism and address the hotel room shortage.

During the session discussion on the bill, Limtiaco said the measure creates business opportunities for those who would like to open their homes to island visitors.

For her part, Muña-Barnes said the bill would promote Chamorro hospitality and enable tourists to learn more about Guam’s culture and heritage.

Reacting to the passage of the bill, Limtiaco said he’s excited to see this new potential small-scale industry get started.

“We’re confident it’ll make its way into law,” Limtiaco said. “If anyone’s interested in establishing their own bed and breakfast, my office is ready and willing to provide assistance with the process. We’ve contacted all the regulatory agencies and my office has received all the information that is needed to get you going,” he added.
