BRIEF, unscheduled power outages hit parts of the island yesterday, the Guam Power Authority reported.

According to GPA, power generation units Cabras Unit No. 1 and MEC 9 tripped offline at around 1 p.m. yesterday and the loss of both units contributed to different circuits losing power.

Cabras Unit No. 1 was the first unit to go offline, followed by MEC Unit No. 9.

Areas affected include parts of Mangilao, Dededo, Hagåtña, Talofofo, Harmon, Barrigada, Pågat, Mangilao, Apra Heights, Macheche, and Tamuning.

All circuits were restored by 2:20 p.m., and the cause of the outage is still being investigated.

GPA is asking any customer still experiencing power-related problems to contact GPA Trouble Dispatchers at 475-1472/3/4.

Meanwhile, the Guam Waterworks Authority also announced an emergency water outage up to 10 p.m. last night.

Areas affected included Dededo and parts of Dededo Kaiser.

According to GWA, its crews are making emergency repairs.

For more information on the outage, contact GWA's 24/7 phone line at 646-4211.
