(DPHSS) – The director of the Department of Public Health and Social Services, in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, would like to inform the public of a voluntary recall of certain Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce chunk light tuna in oil products because they do not meet the standards for seam quality. This recall is an expansion of the limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce chunk white albacore tuna in water that was announced by the U.S. FDA on March 6.

According to the FDA, cans that do not meet seam standards could result in product contamination by spoilage organism or by pathogens, which could lead to illness if consumed.

There have been no reported illnesses to date associated with these products, and Tri-Union Seafoods is issuing this voluntary recall to ensure the highest margin of safety and quality.

To date, the Division of Environmental Health of this department has determined that the implicated products were available at Pay-Less Supermarkets in Oka and Sinajaña. Corrective actions were taken at these retail stores.
