A BILL is seeking to amend existing zoning laws to allow homeowners to open bed and breakfasts in their one-family dwelling or multiple-dwelling zone properties.

Sens. Mike Limtiaco and Tina Muña-Barnes introduced Bill 92-32 (COR) in an effort to grow the economy and increase opportunities for small business development.

Limtiaco said the proposed legislation attempts to tap existing capacity in the current residential real estate market to accommodate the growth in tourism and address the hotel room shortage.

“This bill creates business opportunities for those who would like to pursue opening their homes to our island visitors, offering our tourists a unique experience that engrosses them in our culture as well as other aspects of our beautiful island that they seldom experience,” he said.

In addition, Limtiaco said the bill opens an opportunity for Guam’s villages, especially the ones in the south, to participate in the tourism market with little to no investment risk.
