“I’VE played piano all my life. So that’s my life. Piano is my life,” says Katya Grineva, the featured artist of the Guam Symphony Society’s spring concert, entitled “Russian Romantics.”

Grineva, a New York-based romantic pianist, has been a soloist with the Acadiana Symphony, the ARS Nova Musicians Chamber Orchestra, the Manhattan Virtosi Orchestra and the European Philharmonic Orchestra in France.

The gala dinner and concert will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at $65 per person. The matinee concert will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 at $15 for adults and $10 for students (through high school).

Grineva will be performing “Piano Concerto No. 2” by Rachmaninoff for her first concert with the Guam Symphony.

“It has the most beautiful melodies and incredibly beautiful notes and there’s also this mood of victory of overcoming something very hard,” Grineva said about the piece. “Even for me, when I first started to practice this piece, I was going through a hard period in my life and when I learned this concerto, it pulled me out.”

“There’s something about this piece that is very, very special. And I hope that people feel it, I hope they feel inspired, and I hope they appreciate classical music,” she added.

The symphony will also be performing pieces by Rimskey-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, and Borodin, as well as pieces from important Russian composers in the late 19th century.

Tickets are now available at Faith Book Store, Brown Bag Café (Tamuning), Aurora Resort & Spa front desk, and IT&E branches at Andersen Base Exchange, Micronesia Mall, Harmon Headquarters, Guam Premier Outlets and Agana Shopping Center.
