(UAL) – United Airlines recently hosted 300 golfers from 10 cities in Japan at the third annual United Cup golf tournament held at Leo Palace Resort.

“United is committed to growing the Guam market and launched this event two years ago in an effort to work with our travel agency partners in Japan to bring more Japanese travelers to Guam to experience this beautiful island. I am delighted to see a healthy growth in the number of participants year by year. I am excited to welcome 300 participants this year, compared to 200 when we started the event in 2011,” said Toru Takahashi, United’s managing director, Japan Sales in Tokyo.

United Japan sales offices in 10 cities across Japan have been working together to develop the annual event. Close coordination and promotion with local travel agency partners has made the program attractive to participants and has maximized marketing synergies.

While on Guam, the participants also visited local restaurants, shops and other local businesses.

United’s managing director of Business Development for Asia/Pacific, Sam Shinohara, said: “As Guam’s hometown airline, we are always happy to play a role in growing the number of visitors to Guam. Sports tourism events such as the United Cup provide a great opportunity for visitors to enjoy all that Guam has to offer.”
