GOV. Eddie Calvo has appointed a new commissioner to take over the seat vacated by Christopher Carillo, who resigned earlier this month following his arrest on drug charges.

Alice Taijeron, who served as commissioner from 2007 to 2009 and again in 2010 to 2012, will take over for the remainder of Carillo’s term which ends in 2014.

According to GEC Executive Director Maria Pangelinan, the agency was informed by the Democratic Party on Wednesday of the party’s recommendation.

Carillo resigned from his position after being arrested on Feb. 28 and indicted on charges of importation of a Schedule I controlled substance as a first-degree felony. Carillo had begun his position with GEC early last year.
