TRAFFIC was backed up and motorists were rerouted in Tamuning after a fire hit the Younex Emerald Showroom Building early yesterday evening.
Guam Fire Department spokesman Lt. Ed Artero said the incident was reported at around 6:16 p.m. and fire units were on the scene within minutes of the call. The fire was located behind the building where a series of loose lumber and other debris were located.
Motorists heading northbound were rerouted instead to Route 14 by the Guam Premier Outlets while southbound motorists were directed to go onto Ypao Road, according to Officer A.J. Balajadia, Guam Police Department spokesman.
At about 7 p.m. last night, the inner and middle lanes northbound were reopened.
The showroom was in the process of being torn down after its lease on the property expired.
As for the status of the stalled condominium complex, company officials said they are working on getting things back on track.
Construction on the three buildings of the complex, located along the cliff line in Tamuning, was stopped in 2010 because of concerns raised by residents who live in the area.
The complex is also right next to the Guam Memorial Hospital. The buildings now look like a ghost town, yet still have the cranes as if they are on standby to resume work.
