CLOSE to 7,500 government of Guam retirees have a reason to smile this week.
On Monday, Gov. Eddie Calvo ordered the release of about $8.2 million for the payment of annual Cost of Living Allowance checks to retirees.
The money was released to the Government of Guam Retirement Fund and the checks were sent out yesterday.
“Times are tough, especially for people on a fixed income,” Calvo said in a statement. “I hope this can help our elderly and their families, especially as the holidays approach.”
According to GGRF Director Paula Blas, the checks go out to 7,455 retirees and their survivors in the amount of $1,100 per check, whether it is direct deposit or via regular mail.
