A RESOLUTION was passed by the Consolidated Commission on Utilities recently to name the Guam Power Authority and Guam Waterworks Authority Multipurpose Facility in Fadian, Mangilao in honor of the late CCU Commissioner Gloria B. Nelson.
Nelson served as CCU secretary and chair of the commission’s employment development relations committee.
The energy efficient, LEED-certified facility will merge power and water utility offices in one convenient location to house administrative, training, customer service, engineering and other offices in addition to a central control dispatch for both GPA and GWA.
The multipurpose facility will also address the “current and future” needs of both utilities.
In addition, the new complex in Fadian aims to increase efficiency by reducing leasing and renovating costs necessary to maintain current facilities.
In 2010, the Public Utilities Commission approved the 2010 GPA revenue bond and subordinate bond issuance to finance the construction of the new office complex in Fadian. A few months after, the Legislature authorized the transfer of property in the area to provide necessary land for the development of the consolidated central office for the water and power utilities.
