THE Guam Police Department is warning residents to always be aware of their surroundings, especially if they are alone.

Two separate investigations are now underway involving women who were assaulted. One took place in Tamuning while the other took place in Barrigada.

Officer A.J. Balajadia, GPD spokesman, said Tuesday night at around 8:30 p.m., a woman was placing her groceries in her vehicle in the parking lot of the Pay-Less Supermarket in Oka, Tamuning when a man began pulling her purse.

The suspect managed to get a hold of the purse, ran, then got into the front passenger seat of a red Toyota Corolla that was parked next the victim’s vehicle. The victim said she saw four or five men in the vehicle. She was not injured.

The second investigation involves an alleged abduction and rape in an unknown location. The incident was reported at around 5 a.m. on Monday.

Balajadia said a woman entered her vehicle in the parking lot outside Crown Bakery in Barrigada. “A male individual who was hiding in the backseat forced her to drive to another location where the female reported she was sexually assaulted and robbed,” Balajadia said.

He further stated the case is an active investigation and is a priority for detectives of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

“They’ve been asked not to disclose the details of this case so that the investigation is not jeopardized,” Balajadia emphasized.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to call detectives at 475-8561 or Guam Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP (4357).
