A THEFT investigation led to the arrest of a suspect believed to have sold an Apple iPhone 4S that was stolen in a gym locker room after the owner forgot it.
Leonard Manguba Sison, 19, faces a misdemeanor charge of theft of property lost or mislaid. He was charged Friday in Superior Court.
According to court documents, the iPhone owner on Sept. 21 reported to police that he had left his phone at a bench near his pouch. The victim returned to the gym after realizing his phone was missing, but the phone was not turned in. He then contacted his service provider and had the phone locked and deactivated.
Police later discovered that the missing phone was reactivated and registered with Docomo Pacific under a pre-paid service. The investigation led to a female identified as Lamour Fejeran who indicated that she and her boyfriend had purchased the iPhone from a Philip Joseph Hernandez for $200. Fejeran told police that she had the phone unlocked by an individual and has been using it since.
When police tracked Hernandez, he informed them that he purchased the phone from Sison for $200. Hernandez claimed he had no idea the phone was stolen, court documents stated.
Sison eventually was located and arrested. He initially told police that he purchased the phone from an unknown individual then later recanted his statement and admitted that he found the phone in the men’s locker room of Paradise Fitness Center, court documents state. He also admitted to selling the phone to Hernandez.
