WILFRED Aflague is bidding farewell to GovGuam after 26 years of service.
The Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse director confirmed with Variety he has already submitted his resignation to Gov. Eddie Calvo, effective tomorrow.
“It’s for health reasons,” Aflague said of his resignation. “I just need to take some time off.”
Aflague was appointed CFO in 2008 by then-Gov. Felix Camacho but stepped down for personal reasons for about a year. In April 2010, he came back, resigned at the end of Camacho’s term but then returned at the request of Calvo.
The Governor’s Office confirmed they’ve received Aflague’s resignation letter and are awaiting his personnel action forms.
Aflague has served in other capacities within GovGuam, including a stint as director of the Department of Administration.
Meanwhile, current Deputy Director Rey Vega is expected to take over as interim director of DMHSA.
