PROJECTS to restore historic Hagåtña will soon become a reality as the Guam Economic Development Authority announced they are releasing funds for the Hagåtña Restoration & Redevelopment Authority so the organization can complete projects identified under the project's master plan.
According to GEDA, the funds will now be under the purview of the Department of Chamorro Affairs. The monies are part of the capital improvement program established by Public Law 30-228, which utilizes proceeds from the Hotel Occupancy Tax, Revenue Bonds, and Series 2011A.
“Restoring the luster of historic Hagåtña is at the core of Gov. Eddie Calvo’s plan to revitalize our island’s capital. He has empowered the Department of Chamorro Affairs through HRRA to execute the Hagåtña Master Plan,” GEDA Administrator Karl Pangelinan said.
“This funding is a vital step in the process of revitalizing Hagåtña, instilling pride in our capital city, and helping define our destination brand image for our visitors,” he added.
For his part, DCA Director Joseph Cameron said he is elated about the funding, but said he could not release how much was transferred.
“The amount is undisclosed due to the government of Guam bidding process,” he explained.
