GUAM Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo has received word that federal grants will be given to organizations on Guam to help preserve the Chamorro culture and promote locally grown produce.
“In particular, these funds will enhance and diversify Guam’s cultural tourism by promoting the Chamorro heritage and will also encourage Buy Local efforts,” Bordallo said.
She added: “Moreover, these federal investments promote economic and self-sufficiency, and will help organizations such as Pa’a Taotao Tano and Farm to Table-Guam utilize cultural and local resources to grow our economy in a long-term, sustainable way.”
Pa’a Taotao Tano will receive $273,882 to establish a Chamorro Dance and Traditions Academy that will promote authentic cultural traditions of Chamorro dance, chants and songs, and weaving through the “I Minagahit Kutturan Chamorro: Authentic Chamorro Dance and Traditions Project.”
Farm to Table-Guam Corp. received $135,078 to support its Guam Value-added Agriculture Planning Project, which develops viable marketing opportunities for local agricultural products.
