DESPITE the reduced number of Marines scheduled to be relocated to Guam, more defense dollars are being invested in military facilities on-island, including a portion of the recently awarded $100 million range maintenance contract and the $17.6 million wharf improvement project.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic in Norfolk, Va., has awarded a $100 million multiple award contract for range sustainment and munitions response remediation services, with 15 percent of the project allotted for Guam, according to the Department of Defense announcement yesterday.
NAVFAC Atlantic has awarded the three-year contract to USA Environmental Inc. of Oldsmar, Fla., BERS-Weston Joint Venture, and Bering Sea Eccotech, both headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska.
The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2015, according to DOD.
Wharf improvement
DOD also announced the awarding of a $17.6 million contract to the Bulltrack-Watts Joint Venture for repair and modernization of Victor Wharf at Naval Base Guam.
The Defense Department said NAVFAC Marianas awarded the task order to the California joint venture under a previously awarded multiple award construction contract.
