A DARK road as well as speed and/or alcohol are factors the Guam Police Department’s Highway Patrol Division is looking into as they investigate the island’s 10th traffic fatality.
According to GPD spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia, at around 7:03 p.m. last night, officers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash on Route 3 by Fern Terrace and NCTAMS in Dededo.
"The male operator of a 2010 Toyota Corolla was heading north on Route 3 when he collided with a male individual who was on the roadway. The driver lost control and ran off the roadway striking a concrete pole," Balajadia said.
The driver was not hurt. However, the body of the male individual was lying on the road.
Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola was called to the area and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:52 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled today to determine the exact cause of death.
The victim has been identified as Jose T. Cabrera, 75, of Dededo.
Guam Highway Patrol was at the location last night conducting their investigation. No arrests were made nor were any citations issued to the driver pending the outcome of the case.
The driver was only identified as being 31 years old and from Dededo.
GPD is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call Guam Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP (4357).
