A 48-year-old man died last night at Guam Memorial Hospital from serious injuries he received when the moped he was riding collided into another vehicle yesterday morning in Dededo.

An investigation is now ongoing into the island’s latest traffic fatality.

Guam Police Department spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia said they received a report of the incident at around 9:30 a.m. The incident happened in the vicinity of Route 1 and Ysengsong Road in Dededo. The rider of the moped reportedly collided into the vehicle while heading south.

Motorists had to find another way to get to their destination yesterday morning as police officers from the Guam Police Department’s Highway Patrol Division investigated the scene.

When emergency officials arrived, the rider, identified later as a 48-year-old male, was unconscious. The rider was transported to GMH and was on life support with multiple injuries in the trauma room before he died.

The man has not been identified. His death marks the eighth reported traffic fatality for the year.

Another one

Meanwhile, police and medics responded to another auto-motorcycle collision at around 6:13 p.m. along Route 16 by Bubble Lounge in Harmon.

Balajadia said the female driver of a Toyota Camry pulled out onto Rt. 16 from Chief Appraisers when the male operator of a Yamaha Cafe R1 motorcycle driving imprudently struck the rear of the Camry.

The rider of the motorcycle was at first listed as having serious injuries. His condition has since been changed to minor injuries. The motorcyclist was reported to be alert and conscious. He was transported to GMH for treatment.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old man involved in a motorcycle accident along Harmon Loop road early in the morning last Saturday remains in critical condition at GMH’s intensive care unit.
