A MAN who was indicted in court on allegations he lied to federal authorities on the whereabouts of a fugitive will be changing his plea in District Court from not guilty to guilty.
Joseph Mitchell Casil was arrested in July 17 after U.S. Marshals conducted a surveillance of residence in Liguan Terrace, Dededo and observed Casil and the suspected fugitive entering a vehicle.
Prior to the arrest, Casil was approached at his home by Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers and was asked if the fugitive was within his home. At the time, Casil denied the fugitive was inside. The individual whom Casil was questioned about was wanted on an outstanding warrant of arrest for a pre-trial release violation in the Superior Court of Guam.
According to documents filed in court, Casil intends to plead guilty, admitting that his statement regarding the location of the fugitive was false and he knew it was false.
“He knew the fugitive was in the residence and he deliberately concealed this material fact to protect the fugitive from arrest,” his attorney, Richard Arens, wrote.
