SOURCES close to the Variety have reported that the adventure and thrill-seeking tandem of Virgin Atlantic Airways’ CEO and billionaire Richard Branson and California real estate mogul Chris Welsh are on Guam.
Welsh’s super-catamaran (60 feet wide), which is being used to transport the jet-aircraft-resembling submarine, has been reported within the past couple of days to have secured a berth in Guam’s Apra Harbor.
Unlike “Titanic” and “Avatar” director James Cameron’s trips last March to the Challenger Deep aboard his submersible Deepsea Challenger, which was secondarily constructed as a scientific platform, Branson and Welsh’s sub was apparently designed for thrill-seeking pleasure.
Due to the non-scientific nature of the Branson-Welsh expedition, one can gather that the University of Guam may have no involvement in this endeavor.
When asked to comment about the report of Branson and Welsh’s impending trip to the Mariana Trench, UOG marine lab director Dr. Laurie Raymundo said she was unaware that the expedition was underway and that the two were on Guam.
During an interview with Chris Welsh back in July 2011, he reported he would most likely be the pilot to take the one-manned submersible to the bottom of the trench. He also indicated that, at that time, a few kinks still needed to be worked out and that he personally had to shed another 20 pounds.

If Pepsi is back on island, he should paddle down to their boat and personally welcome them to Guam. Pepsi will get the foto op, and score some points with the international celebrity tribe.

I sincerely hope that Senator Respico meets with these well known celebrities and informs them of his law that requires them to mention Guam one or more time in each paragraph of press releases.
They must also mention his ( Respicio's ) name 5 or more times in any and all interviews given, be it print or electronic media.
They should also be informed that all gas, fuel, food and other supplies must be purchased locally and have the Guam Seal on it. I
f they fail to meet Respicio's law, we must refuse them any use of the Pacific within 200 miles and have the USCG enforce the law.
This will will send a firm and clear message to any and all celebrities who may wish to spend time and cash on Guam...
