GUAM has a big delegation attending the National Democratic Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

There are about 15 local Democrats attending the weeklong event, which started yesterday and ends this Saturday, Guam time.

According to Democratic Party of Guam executive director Carlo Branch, Sen. Rory Respicio is heading the group as the delegation chairman.

Aside from Respicio, other delegates who are pledged to vote for President Barrack Obama include Darren Gutierrez, Derick Baza Hills, Therese Arriola, Regine Biscoe Lee, and Sarah Thomas Nededog.

Then there are the super delegates and they include National Committee Woman Taling Taitano and Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo. These super delegates can cast their vote for whoever they want but they have pledged their support for President Obama.

Also attending is Vice Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz who will be serving as representative to the party’s national platform committee.

Other individuals attending are Adam Carbullido, John Junior Calvo and John Whitt – all staffers for Bordallo.

“They are participating in the convention as a whole but are not part of the official delegation,” Branch said.

Whitley Quinley, a Democratic member of the Guam Youth Congress, is attending as a delegation page at the request of the Democratic Party of Guam.

Also at the convention is Pilar Lujan, former Democratic Party of Guam chairwoman, and party member Tyrone Taitano who is attending on behalf of Branch, who stayed back because of the primary election.

Not attending is acting Democratic Party of Guam chairwoman Gloria Nelson and National Committee Man Dr. David Shimizu.
