GOV. Eddie Calvo is continuing to lobby various U.S. government agencies to expand the China visa waiver program for Guam.
According to the governor, a meeting took place with officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation while he was off-island attending the Republican national convention.
Calvo said this was the first head-to-head meeting with the FBI.
Although the governor feels there has been progress made with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, the FBI has its own set of issues – mainly involving counter intelligence – that must be addressed and mitigated.
The key, Calvo stressed, is to provide a cost-benefit analysis to show that the money that will be spent by potential Chinese tourists would be beneficial in the long run.
“We need to bring closer dialogue between two great nations,” the governor concluded.
