AGO plans to move out of Pedro’s Plaza

THE Attorney General’s Office may soon move to a new location. The Department of Public Works has advised the AGO to leave its current office building on West O’Brien Drive in Hagåtña, called Pedro’s Plaza, as soon as possible because the aging building may not be structurally sound.

The decision comes after weeks of reports from employees of snapping and cracking noises and vibrating floors. The building’s aches and noises have frightened those who work in the building, and have prompted several requests for a qualified inspection.

DPW sent a letter asking the landlord of Pedro’s Plaza to hire a structural engineer to assess the building but has not received any response. So they are advising the Attorney General and his staff to move out, saying it may not be safe to continue occupying the structure.

The AGO expects to issue an invitation to bid for the lease of office space by next week in coordination with the Guam Services Agency.

In July, DPW engineers did conduct a visual inspection of Pedro’s Plaza at the request of Attorney General Lenny Rapadas. But the inspection was cursory, and a more detailed structural integrity inspection was recommended.
