WITH the primary elections on the horizon, the Guam Election Commission is working to ensure a smooth primary election day on Saturday.

As part of the preparations, an election simulation will be conducted Friday night. A test deck of ballots will be tabulated both electronically and manually to test the machines and prepare the precinct officials and GEC staff.

GEC is ensuring there will be no issues with lists of registered voters. Employees are double-checking and cross-referencing the lists for errors. The commission is also working with the University of Guam to consolidate the listings.

An official list of registered voters has not been completed but will be available for political parties, candidates, and mayors’ offices by Wednesday.

For absentee voting, 74 ballots were sent out to UOCAVA voters, 50 ballots to homebound voters, and 211 ballots to in-office voters.

The primary election will be this Saturday, Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters are reminded that they can only vote for members of one political party. Voters are also advised to bring an identification card with them when they vote at their precincts.

For this year's election, voters will be voting for senatorial, congressional, and mayoral candidates. The position for Public Auditor will also be on the ballot.

The general election will be held Nov. 4.
